Day 5
Test to Release
From Monday the 17th of May , non- essential travel will be allowed and there will be different requirements for tests when travellers return, depending on the country they have visited.
Under a traffic light system, those returning from countries on the green list, will have to order one “gold-standard” PCR test to take within two days of arrival.
If returning from an amber list country, they will have to take a second PCR test on the eighth day while quarantining at home for ten days, even if they have been vaccinated, although they have the option to take an extra test after day five to secure early release. The tests must be taken, even by those who have been vaccinated.
It is likely that holiday destinations will insist on a test before flying. In the 72 hours before flying back to the UK, travellers must take a lateral flow test. Travellers to green countries also have to take a PCR test within two days of returning. Those arriving from amber countries have to take two PCR tests, on days two and eight.
Tests are mandatory for all arrivals to Britain. Some destinations may require proof of vaccinations. Travellers will be able to use the NHS app as a vaccine passport if they have had two doses, or can ask for a paper version by calling 119.
