Dr Elise Dallas, Private Harley Street GP and Women’s Health Specialist, offers some insight into the benefits of reducing alcohol consumption and how it can have a profound impact on our health and wellbeing.
Binge drinking, defined as having at least 6 drinks in a single session, increases the risk of damage to your health. British women are one of the top binge drinkers globally with new research showing that 26% in the UK binge drink at least once a month. Over consumption of alcohol can place people at an increased risk of cancer, heart disease, liver disease, brain damage, stroke and more.
“Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to the accumulation of fat in the liver, a condition known as fatty liver disease. The good news is that, in many cases, this condition is reversible. When you reduce or eliminate alcohol intake, your liver has a chance to heal.”
In contrast reducing alcohol consumption can offer great improvements to your health and wellbeing. A significant reduction in alcohol consumption can improve liver function, cardiovascular health, immunity, sleep and mental health.
