1. What types of therapy do you offer?

I provide a range of therapies and work in an integrative way. I provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, schema therapy and integrative approaches tailored to individual needs.

2. Who can benefit from therapy?

Therapy is beneficial for anyone experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, or looking for personal growth and emotional support. It can be a very practical and evidence-based experience to give you proven tools to move forward.

3. How do I book a session?

You can book a session by contacting The London General Practice directly via phone or through our website’s request an appointment form.

4. What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first session involves discussing your concerns, setting therapy goals, and creating a personalised treatment plan.

5. Is therapy confidential?

Yes, all therapy sessions are strictly confidential, and your privacy is fully protected.

6. How long is a typical therapy session?

Therapy sessions are one hour.

7. Do you offer specialised services for corporate clients?

Yes, as an Occupational Psychologist as well I can provide tailored psychological services for corporate clients, including stress management and executive coaching.

8. Are your therapists qualified and experienced?

I am a Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society.

9. How many therapy sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies based on individual goals and the complexity of the issues being addressed.

10. Do you offer online therapy sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person and online therapy sessions for your convenience and flexibility.

11. Do you provide therapy for children and adolescents?

No I offer therapy for patients over the age of 18.

12. What issues can therapy help with?

I can help with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, workplace stress and burnout, women’s health issues, fertility aspects and other issues. Often there is more than one issue going on for someone at any one time. Coming to an initial assessment can help to outline what is going on for you and outline a treatment plan.

13. Is a referral required to begin therapy?

No referral is needed. You can self-refer directly by contacting The London General Practice.

14. Can therapy help with workplace stress?

Yes, I offer specific therapies and interventions designed to help individuals manage workplace stress and enhance mental well-being.

15. Are couples therapy services available?

This is not currently available at this time.

16. How can therapy help with mental health in the workplace?

I can work with individuals, teams or at wider system levels to review mental health needs in the workplace and consider evidenced based solutions where required.

Counselling and Occupational Psychologist

Specialisms: Work related mental health (burnout, stress, anxiety); relationship and personality issues; women’s health and fertility.

Dr Helen Ferris-Baker is a Chartered Occupational and Counselling Psychologist accredited by the BPS and HCPC.

As a Counselling Psychologist, Dr Ferris-Baker is trained across various therapeutic modalities, allowing work with patients in an integrative manner. By drawing on different models and approaches, therapy is tailored to meet each patient’s specific needs. As an Occupational Psychologist and Coach, Helen also provides insights into work-based behaviour and organisational culture.

With over 15 years of experience in mental health, Dr Ferris-Baker has worked across NHS and private sector mental health services, running behaviour change programs and collaborating with organisations to enhance employee well-being. 

In therapeutic settings, Dr Ferris-Baker specialises in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), as well as work-based models of change. Therapy is centred on the relationship formed with patients, always approached in a compassion-focused manner. Dr Ferris-Baker works with patients in a short- to mid-term capacity, aiming to empower individuals to reach a point where they no longer need psychological input. Areas of specialisation include women’s mental health, fertility issues, and work-based mental health aspects.
