Diarrhoea as a Feature of COVID-19 Disease
A study in China published as a letter in the BMJ suggests that the most common symptoms in patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 are fever and cough. They suggested that the incidence of other clinical features was often overlooked.
The study collected data from three reports and compared their incidence accordingly. They found that the incidence of low white cell count, fever and diarrhoea in the three studies showed a statistically significant difference.
Amongst these symptoms, diarrhoea displayed the smallest P value, which suggested that the symptom of diarrhoea could be underestimated and should be considered to be caused by SARS-CoV-2 as a symptom when a patient presents.
